Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl B. Greenidge, earlier today signed a Memorandum of Understanding on political cooperation with the Vice Prime Minister of Romania, Ms. Ana Birchall.

The signing took place during a bilateral meeting on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. It is intended to bolster the relationship between the respective Foreign Ministries.

Guyana and Romania established diplomatic relations on June 20, 1973. Since then, Guyana has benefitted from technical cooperation, specifically in the areas of medicine and mechanical engineering.

Meanwhile, Vice Prime Minister Birchall conveyed today that Romania will remain a strong advocate of the African, Caribbean, and Pacific Group of States- European Union (ACP-EU) mechanism when that State attains the presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) in January 2019.
