Head of the Department of Energy, Dr. Mark Bynoe has assured that every effort is being made to ensure that Guyana’s legislative framework is up to par before first oil in 2020.

The environmentalist made this known during his Department’s first press conference that was held yesterday at the Ministry of the Presidency.

Dr. Bynoe noted that while his Department has only been up and running for three months, it has been able to make some headway. He said that this is especially where the legislative framework for oil is concerned.

Dr. Bynoe said, “The Department recognizes the need for a strong legislative framework. The successful management of the sector would not be possible if this is not done that is why when the Department was established, one of the first things on my agenda was to organize a team to review what exists…They have finished this process and will be making a presentation to myself and others on November 13.”

The Energy Department Head said too that international institutions such as the Commonwealth have already signaled an interest in helping the department locate an expert to support this process. He noted that the media will be updated on this matter before December 31.
