Commissioner General of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), Godfrey Statia, has written the Chancellor of the Judiciary (ag), Justice Yonette Cummings- Edwards to call on the courts to fast track several tax cases worth just over $14B.

During a press conference held today, the tax chief said that the cases have been tied up in the system for well over 15 years. He said that it is costing the revenue authority millions of dollars to have its legal department track these matters when there are way more pressing issues to attend to.

In this regard, Statia pointed out that GRA won just over $5B from some cases but it has not been able to access these funds as it requires time and effort from its department to go after those issues as well.
