The man who was shot earlier today while attempting to rob a diamond company, has been identified as a gold miner.

He is 25-year-old Henry Johanison of Sophia.

The Guyana Standard has been informed that the deceased previously sold raw gold to the owner of the company. According to information received, the deceased called a manager at the company and informed him that he wanted to purchase diamonds and raw gold.

Arrangements were made for the 25-year-old to get the requested amount of gems and he was given a time to visit the Thomas Street business place. A source said that when the deceased went into the business place, he almost immediately pulled out a gun.

He was however, shot before he could have opened fire at anyone. Three persons who are suspected to be the deceased’s accomplices have since been arrested.
