The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) is calling on the Health Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony to step aside, noting that the COVID-19 surge being experienced by Guyana can be better managed.
Guyana has recorded over 30,000 cases and over 740 deaths since March 2020, with active cases quadrupling within the last five weeks. There are over 4,000 active cases in the country with almost 160 hospitalised and about 40 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“Frank must go and he must step aside,” PNCR Member, Dr Van West-Charles said during a press conference today.
He noted that the Minister must give way to those who can better manage the pandemic, and consult all political parties, including the A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC), which the PNC is a member.
Former Health Minister and PNCR Member, Dr Karen Cummings said that the pandemic is being “totally mishandled” by the government.
“The actions of the Government are causing more deaths, more infections, and more hospitalizations of our citizens. This is due primarily to its abandonment of the Coalition’s effective Covid-19 plan that it inherited, and its determination not to have any bi-partisan approach to managing this pandemic,” she said.
She added that with Guyana now classified with the highest restriction on travel, Tier 4, also means that country is classified as having the highest level of mismanagement of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dr Cummings said that Minister Anthony must step aside should he fail to provide specific information to the following questions:
1. How many free PCR testing sites are in Guyana, and where are they located?
2. What variants of Covid-19 are in Guyana?
3. What is the infection rate among our citizens?
4. How many vaccinated persons have died from Covid-19?
5. How many children are, and have been, infected with Covid-19, and have any died?
6. How many AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Sputnik V vaccines have been received to date and how many persons received 1st and 2nd doses?
7. Is there a National Register for the collection of data on Adverse Effects from the vaccines?
8. How many persons, who have underlying conditions, received vaccinations?
9. Where can persons with underlying conditions receive an Exemption Certificate from being vaccinated?
10. How many ICU beds are there, and how many trained ICU Nurses are employed?
Where did this Cummings get her certificate? Like all the others in the PNC, she says she can do better.
But they were useless when they were in power.
