Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred yesterday around 18:20hrs at Loo Creek Public Road, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.

According to police, motor pickup #GSS 7395 driven by Tamica Prescod, a 30-year-old Barbadian national, was proceeding north along the western side of the road when the vehicle allegedly collided with 48-year-old Kumar Persaud, who was riding a bicycle.

Prescod told police that the pedal cyclist – who was in front of her – made a sudden turn into her path.

She further contends that on seeing such, she pulled further east to avoid a collision but despite her effort, the left-side front of the vehicle collided with the pedal cyclist.

As a result of the impact, Persaud fell onto the roadway and received injuries to his head and body.

He was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and the police. At the Diamond Diagnostic Center, he was seen and examined by doctors on duty and pronounced dead on arrival.

Prescod is in police custody, while Persaud’s body lies at the Lyken Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
