Businessman Azruddin Mohamed says he is under constant surveillance by members of the Guyana Police Force, specifically the Special Branch Unit.
In a public statement, Mohamed expressed grave concern over what he described as continued harassment.

“It is with deep concern that I update you the people of this country about the constant harassment I’m facing by the Special Branch Unit an arm of the Guyana Police Force,” he stated in a video shared to his Facebook page.

He is also accusing the administration of being behind these suspected surveillance operations. The businessman added that the PPP/C government, while in opposition between 2019 and 2020, had complained bitterly to him about the frequent harassment they had once faced by the same special branch unit.

“Now in government, they have resorted to using the same tactics they once faced and complained about,” he said.

Mohamed claimed that the Special Branch is allegedly harassing him “in a more invasive, oppressive, and aggressive manner”. He also noted that “sources” within Special Branch have personally contacted him expressing regret.

“They hate having to do this to me. I personally asked why, what’s the reason, and they blatantly said I am the biggest threat to the government…”

Mohamed went on to criticise the priorities of the police force, noting that resources spent on tailing him should be redirected to guarding against Venezuela’s aggression to take over the Essequibo, and to rip criminal elements off the streets.

Mohamed showed a video of him confronting a man in a vehicle he claims is from the Special Branch. In the footage, he tells the individual directly that he is scared for his life.
