A police operation was carried out yesterday at Sixth Avenue, Bartica, Essequibo River, resulting in the discovery of marijuana and suspected uncustomed goods.

Upon arriving at the location, ranks encountered three individuals—two women, aged 66 and 32, and a teenager—who were subsequently taken into custody.

During the search, police uncovered three transparent plastic bags containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis. Additionally, they found one transparent plastic bag with a whitish, rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine, and a handbag containing two transparent zip-lock bags with substances suspected to be methamphetamines. A total of $918,050 in Guyana currency, suspected to be proceeds from narcotics sales, was also discovered.

The ranks further seized 46 bottles of alcoholic beverages suspected to be uncustomed goods, including:

  • 8 bottles of Belaire
  • 2 bottles of Jack Daniels whiskey
  • 12 bottles of Black Label whiskey
  • 6 bottles of Hennessy whiskey
  • 4 bottles of Gold Label rum
  • 5 bottles of Cîroc vodka
  • 4 bottles of Fireball rum
  • 5 bottles of Jose Cuervo rum

The trio was escorted to the Bartica Police Station along with the suspected narcotics, cash, and alcoholic beverages. Upon weighing, the suspected cannabis amounted to 89 grams, the suspected cocaine 2.8 grams, and the suspected methamphetamines 0.6 grams. The items were marked, sealed, and lodged at the Bartica Police Station, where the alcoholic beverages were also documented. The suspects remain in custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
