According to fraud accused businessman and presidential hopeful, Azruddin Mohamed, while it is not as impossible task, smuggling 10,000 kilos of gold out of Guyana would be no easy feat. He said achieving this would be a multi-stakeholder operation.

Answering questions from the media outside the court this morning, Mohamed was cornered about allegations that caused him and his family to be sanctioned by the United States. He said the best person to speak about the 10,000 kg of gold alleged to have been smuggled is Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo.

He then went on to say, “It is not easy to smuggle 10k kilos of gold. You think it is easy to smuggle all this? Senior government officials have to know about it. It is a process, the Minister of Natural Resources got to sign off on it; GRA, all these bodies have a role.”

Asked specifically to say if he smuggled the gold or not, Mohammed responded, “I don’t know about that.”
