When he faced the media this morning outside the court, US-sanctioned businessman and presidential hopeful, Azruddin Mohamed purported that he is armed with damning evidence to implicate President Dr Irfaan Ali in a plot to defraud the state of tax revenues. He threatened that once Dr. Ali contradicted his claims, he will make that evidence public.

Mohamed said he received the government’s blessing to import his Lamborghini and that he spoke to both President Dr Irfaan Ali and Vice President, Bharrat Jagdeo before importing his vehicle. But they have now turned against him.

“He (Ali) is nothing more than a dishonest and dishonorable person. I have proof that Ali facilitated and assisted with the clearance of the Lamborghini.”

Mohamed threatened, “Any time he comes out and say that it is a lie, I will show the whole country how dishonorable he is…I have proof sir, let him come out and say he did not do it.”

Already, President Ali has been quoted in the media doing the very thing Mohamed basically advised against which is, denying the claims.  While Ali’s comments were offered in an exclusive interview, Jagdeo offered his take on the matter.

During his weekly press conference that was also aired live, Jagdeo said, “Let him show any evidence that President Ali told him to submit fake invoice to GRA (Guyana Revenue Authority).”

Poking holes in Mohamed’s story, Jagdeo said, “It is either a fake invoice and someone helped you, or is it the real invoice and you have nothing to hide.

According to Jagdeo, the self-proclaimed devout Muslim is trying desperately to put lipstick on the metaphoric pig “but that won’t change the nature, it’s a pig.”
