While it laments the “disastrous state” and the “illpreparedness” of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to host an election by September 1, 2025, boycotting the process would allow the ruling party to unleash more harm. This is according to the APNU+WPA coalition, moments after announcing their union.

“We cannot boycott these elections and allow the PPP to gain control of all the national and regional political space in the country. In such an eventuality, the damage to Guyana and its citizens would be disastrous and irreversible,” the parties said.

The coalition added that it would also be “irresponsible” to deny Guyanese the opportunity to express their support for our APNU+WPA and their rejection of the PPP government through their votes.

“Third, the APNU/WPA Coalition is confident it can win a free and fair GRE in Guyana. We do not, however, underestimate the enormous challenge of thwarting the PPP from exploiting the various flaws in the electoral system to its advantage.”

It concluded that while these elections will be held under conditions “that are far from ideal and are prone to PPP manipulation”, it believes that the will of the Guyanese people will prevail, one way or another, in removing the PPP from office.
