Vice President and General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Bharrat Jagdeo on Thursday reprimanded former Finance Minister, Winston Jordan and Working People’s Alliance (WPA) Executive Member, Dr. David Hinds regarding their comments on the exit of Geeta Chandan-Edmond and Daniel Seeram from the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR).
At his press conference, Jagdeo described Jordan and Dr Hinds’ comments as racially charged and reflective of a prejudice against Indo-Guyanese, particularly those who have supported their party in the past. Jordan was reported as saying that Opposition Member of Parliament (MP) Chandan-Edmond’s endorsement of President Dr. Irfaan Ali is a betrayal to the Afro-Guyanese whose votes made her a legislator. While saying that the MP’s move did not come as a surprise, Jordan noted that how she endorsed the opposite side was “reprehensible”.
For his part, Jagdeo said, “So it did not come as a surprise. That is, you know, nudge, nudge, wink, wink. We didn’t trust her. Really didn’t come as a surprise because she is Indo-Guyanese, so this was to be expected of her…they are duplicitous.
“[they don’t] see people as comrades, as you know, brothers in a party, or family in a party. That’s how people, we in our party, we see people as part of a family. It’s not clannish, but that’s how we see people.”
Further, the Vice President also took aim at Dr. Hinds’ remarks on PNCR-appointed Region 4 Chairman Seeram, in which Hinds described him as an ingrate whose ethnicity had secured him political opportunity in the PNCR.
Jagdeo said these statements revealed an entrenched racial perspective that ignored individual contributions and choices. “That’s how they see Indo-Guyanese… Even Amna Ally who was in the PNC for 50 years had to undergo that sort of abuse. She was General Secretary of the party, gave her entire life to the PNC, but never was accepted,” Jagdeo added.
“Hinds described him (Daniel Seeram) as an ingrate whose ethnicity had secured him political opportunity in the PNCR.” It seems to believe that an Indian supporting the PNC has won the highest and the most glorious award.
Why humans are supporting or a part of this racist PNCR just baffles the imagination. Sadly, Indians and humans in general, never learn. Remember Ramjattan who accused the PPP of “racism” when Haitians were not welcome in Guyana. In my opinion, Guyanese blacks and the Haitians are from the same useless tribe in africa, captured by other black victorious tribes – and sold to the the Whites for what they were worth (a string of beads, a sliver of mirror, a coconut, etc.) The value has actually depreciated over time.
No matter how nice snake seem to be, do not trust it for it will turn around and bite you.
