Even if the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) finds itself teaming up with businessman, Azruddin Mohamed for the September 1, 2025, General and Regional Elections, the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) will still prefer its Leader, Aubrey Norton, to be the presidential candidate.
This is non-negotiable, said PNCR Executive Member, Ganesh Mahipaul, who was keen to note during a press conference on Friday that his party is the largest within the APNU partnership.
Also, he said that Norton has the blessings of other APNU members to be the presidential candidate.
As for the position of Prime Ministerial Candidate, Mahipaul said that the requirements have already been laid out by Norton and the country will have to wait for the announcement, which he said, will be made shortly.
Mohamed was sanctioned last year by the United State Government for gold smuggling and is currently embroiled in a tax evasion scandal locally over a Lamborghini car. The businessman claims that President, Dr Irfaan Ali helped to facilitate the registration of the vehicle but has now turned on him because of his newfound political aspirations.
