Police in Regional Division 4C are probing a fatal accident that occurred around 17:30 hrs on Tuesday along the Bee Hive Public Road, East Coast Demerara, claiming the life of 59-year-old Geewanram Girdharry of Bee Hive Railway Embankment.
Reports indicate that Girdharry was driving motorcar PAC 9952 south along the Bee Hive access road when he attempted to overtake another vehicle, PMM 2628, near a bridge. During the maneuver, his vehicle struck the side mirror of the other car, causing him to lose control. The car veered off the roadway and plunged into a trench on the northern parapet, where it became fully submerged with Girdharry trapped inside.
Public-spirited residents quickly responded and managed to retrieve Girdharry from the submerged vehicle. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver of PMM 2628 returned a reading of 0.000% BAC.
Investigations are ongoing.
