Wiping poverty off the face of Guyana will be central to the agenda of an A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) government. Making this pronouncement this evening was Executive Member of the Working People’s Alliance (WPA), Dr David Hinds.
Speaking at the APNU’s campaign launch at the Square of the Revolution, Dr Hinds said the APNU regime would seek to eradicate poverty in two ways. He said the party would engage the respective unions to ensure workers are given a living wage. He said Guyanese workers cannot survive on their current salaries, stressing that they need a government that will fight for their betterment.
“We are going to restore collective bargaining in this country. We will sit with the unions and we will decide together. So I want to make that promise,” said the politician.
The second approach he said entails the implementation of legislation that dictates a portion of the oil money is transferred to citizens.
“As you all know, the party to which I belong, from as early as 2018, said that by 2025, each Gyanese could be, and every family will be entitled to $1 million.” He noted that this is the recommendation of Professor Clive Thomas who did research supporting that such a transfer is possible and sustainable.
The politician said Guyanese deserve more than a frek and an APNU regime will give citizens way more than $100,000 to each citizen.
