-Says its plans will give citizens more money to spend

In light of recent media reports on escalating food prices, the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) said there is an urgent need for people-centered solutions. To increase the purchasing power of citizens, the APNU said its government would provide the following, thereby giving citizens more money to spend:

– A $100,000 annual grant for all adults,
– A $120,000 childcare allowance per child
– Free electricity and water for low-use households
– Salary increases of up to 35% for teachers, nurses, public servants, and security
forces
– A tax-free threshold of $400,000, and
– $50,000 per month for job seekers and tertiary students.

“This is not speculation. These are fully costed, achievable measures aimed at giving real relief to struggling families, while ensuring that Guyana’s oil wealth benefits every citizen, not just the well-connected few,” said the party in a statement today.

The party also called out Vice President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo as always being quick to blame rising costs on global market volatility while offering no solution.

“Guyanese need action, not excuses,” said the APNU, adding that it will continue to place the needs of the people first.
