Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues, has threatened legal action against Ameir Ahmad for alleged defamation stemming from utterances published on the “Melly Mel” Facebook page. The legal proceedings follow a lawyer’s letter issued by Rodrigues’ attorney, Ganesh Arvindra Hira of Hira Legal.
According to the letter, dated August 9, 2025, by Rodrigues’ attorney, Ganesh Arvindra Hira, it was noted that Ahmad allegedly made statements implicating Rodrigues in illegal and improper land transactions. These statements were reportedly part of an audio recording of conversations between Ahmad and Melissa Atwell, the operator of the “Melly Mel” Facebook page.
Hira’s letter said that the allegations and insinuations made by Ahmad are “utterly false and without merit.” It further accuses Ahmad of attempting to “put pressure” on Rodrigues, a public official, through blackmail and extortion.
The letter demands a clear, unqualified, and unconditional apology and retraction, to be approved by Rodrigues on or before Monday, August 11, 2025, at 12 noon. Additionally, Hira wrote that Rodrigues is entitled to substantial compensation and reasonable legal costs, and is requesting Ahmad to provide a proposal for damages and costs.
Hira warned that failure to provide a satisfactory response by the deadline will result in legal proceedings against Ahmad personally, with Rodrigues reserving all her rights.
