Member of the Alliance for Change (AFC), Dr Vincent Adams, is warning residents of Linden, Region 10, not to fall for what he has labelled a “hoax” — that the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) cares for the residents of the mining community.

Dr Adams made the statement on Friday at the AFC’s press conference. He said that after following the PPP’s rally recently held in Linden, he was not convinced that the party cares for Lindeners.

“Please, do not be fooled by these people. They never liked you, and do not fall for this hoax that they try to pull on you now — that suddenly they care for you, to do things for you that they should have been doing anyway before,” he said.

The AFC member noted that for the PPP’s 28 years out of the last 34 years in office, the party did not cater for Linden — an area considered an opposition stronghold.

“And now they want the Lindeners to believe that they’re going to convert those 28 years of total dislike and disdain for that community within one day, which is September 1, into love. Folks, we’re smart enough and we’re not going to buy that,” Dr Adams said.

Dr Adams added: “Here is a government that is telling people they must vote for them in order for them to do basic things they should be doing anyway… They come with this stuff that they love Linden in a day, when they hated them for 28 years. We’re not going to buy it.”

He labelled the promises made at the rally as transactional and reminded citizens of the PPP’s track record of neglecting Linden in areas such as transportation, security, advanced healthcare, agricultural support, land development, drainage networks, road development, electricity expansion, medical staffing and training, waste resource management, and social programmes.

Moreover, he noted that while there are persons in Linden who support the PPP, he found it disrespectful that there is no Lindener — other than Hugh Todd, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation — on the PPP’s National Top-Up List.

“But not a single Lindener, and I know almost all of the Lindeners who support the PPP in Linden — not a single one of them is on the 126 names on that top-up list. And on the geographic list, they have four PPP names… and guess who two of the four are? Todd and Edghill [Minister of Public Works]. I don’t know what connection Edghill has to Linden or Region 10,” he added.
