A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) has unveiled major infrastructure promises, ahead of the September 1, 2025, General and Regional Elections. Its plans include a feasibility study for the “bridging of the Essequibo River.”
The proposed project, the party says, would connect Regions Two, Three, and Seven, while also linking the Essequibo Islands to both banks of the river.
APNU’s manifesto also outlines a revival of Guyana Airways, intended to cut the cost of domestic flights. The party has stressed that this move would not jeopardize the profitability of private aviation operators. Complementary plans for the aviation sector include the upgrading of interior airstrips with extended runways, warehouses, cold storage facilities, control towers, and passenger waiting rooms.
In the water transport sector, APNU has pledged to acquire high-speed ferries and upgrade port facilities along the country’s major rivers. These measures, it says, will reduce travel time and costs, increase trip frequency, improve cargo and passenger capacity, and enhance comfort and safety.
The party is also committing to significant road infrastructure. It has promised the construction of paved road networks directly linking towns such as New Amsterdam–Linden, Mahdia–Bartica, and Linden–Lethem. These roads, APNU contends, would expand connectivity to other communities, including Corriverton and Rose Hall, while unlocking economic and social opportunities.
Further, the coalition says it will prioritize all-weather intra-regional roads, citing key routes such as Lethem–Kato and Bartica–Upper Mazuruni.
