The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has pledged to transform Guyana’s sports sector with the creation of world-class facilities and expanded opportunities for athletes if re-elected for the 2025–2030 period.

At the forefront of its plans is the completion of an international stadium at Palmyra, alongside the construction of synthetic tracks, multipurpose sports centres, and other modern facilities currently underway across the country. The party also intends to establish a world-class indoor stadium with a 15,000 capacity, designed to host boxing, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) championships, and concerts, as well as a velodrome aimed at elevating cycling to a competitive international standard.

The Albion Sports Complex is set for a major transformation into an international cricket academy, with the PPP/C highlighting cricket as a cornerstone of Guyana’s sporting identity. To support athletes more broadly, a high-performance conditioning facility will be created to assist with pre-competition preparation, high-intensity training, and rehabilitation.

In addition to major infrastructural projects, the party has promised to continue upgrading community grounds nationwide to ensure grassroots access to sport. It also plans to launch a career pathway for top retired athletes, particularly in training and coaching so that Guyana’s best sportsmen and women remain engaged beyond their competitive years.
