The Guyana Police Force is investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at about 06:30 hrs on the Mocha Access Road, East Bank Demerara. The crash claimed the life of 60-year-old Sookram (only name provided).
The accident involved motorcar PNN 5140, driven by 25-year-old Shawn Alleyne, and motorcycle CP 4540, which was being ridden by the now-deceased.
Initial investigations revealed that Alleyne was proceeding east along the Mocha Access Road at an alleged fast rate when he collided with Sookram, who was travelling in the same direction.
As a result, Sookram was flung onto the roadway and sustained multiple injuries. Alleyne reportedly failed to stop and fled the scene. Emergency medical technicians arrived shortly after and found the victim unconscious. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at about 09:50 hrs.
The body was later taken to the GPHC mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Alleyne was subsequently arrested, and both he and the vehicle were escorted to the Providence Police Station. A breathalyser test conducted on him returned blood alcohol content (BAC) readings of .058% and .054%.
He remains in custody as investigations continue.
