Detectives in Regional Division 4’B’ are investigating the alleged murder of 40-year-old Ryan Fredericks, a boat operator of Mongrippa Hill, Bartica, which occurred at about 23:30hrs on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at the Safari Inn Hotel located at Friendship, East Bank Demerara.
Fredericks was allegedly murdered by a female suspect (particulars unknown at this time), with whom he reportedly took and rented a room at the said hotel.
Enquiries revealed that Fredericks had hired Navindra Kanhai, a boat operator from 2nd Avenue, Bartica, to take him to Parika. About 17:45hrs on the said date, they arrived at Parika, where Fredericks and the boat operator met up with the suspect, who was waiting in a black motorcar.
Both Fredericks and Kanhai then joined the motorcar and sometime later visited the Safari Inn Hotel, where they booked two rooms. The victim and the suspect entered a room together, while Kanhai entered a separate room alone.
According to Kanhai, sometime between 23:00hrs and 23:30hrs, he was awakened by a knocking on his room door and upon checking, he saw the now dead man, who reportedly told him that he had been robbed and chopped. Fredericks, at that time, was bleeding from a wound to his left arm.
The incident was reported to the police, and the ambulance service was summoned. Checks were made for the female suspect and the motorcar, but they were not seen.
Emergency Medical Technicians who responded pronounced Ryan Fredericks dead at the scene at about 00:55hrs.
The man’s body was examined by crime scene ranks, who saw a deep wound on the inner side of the left upper arm.
The body was escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Navindra Kanhai was placed into custody, assisting with the investigation.
