-Makes major inroads in Buxton and Mocha
The We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Party, led by U.S. sanctioned businessman Azruddin Mohamed and founded only three months ago, made significant inroads into communities traditionally loyal to the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), which anchors the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU).
In Albouystown, Statements of Poll show that WIN secured 557 votes, surpassing APNU’s 453 votes—a clear sign that the fledgling party was able to break the coalition’s grip on this community. Notably, the governing People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) also performed strongly, amassing 547 votes, placing it nearly on par with WIN. The smaller parties lagged significantly, with the Alliance for Change (AFC) taking 24 votes, the Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity (ALP) 9 votes, and Forward Guyana Movement (FGM)18 votes.
In Buxton, another predominantly Black community long regarded as an APNU stronghold, WIN again demonstrated surprising strength. While APNU held the lead with 642 votes, WIN managed to capture 385 votes—a major accomplishment for a party still in its infancy. The PPP/C followed with 55 votes, while the AFC, ALP, and FGM trailed with 13, 6, and 10 votes respectively.
With respect to Mocha, APNU secured 1,013 votes while WIN gained 563 votes, even beating the PPP which got 218 votes. The other opposition parties, AFC, ALP and FGM received 19, 4 and 25 votes respectively.
The foregoing results point to a shifting political dynamic in constituencies once considered unshakable PNCR strongholds. WIN’s ability to attract support in just three months signals not only the weakening dominance of APNU but also the growing fluidity of voter loyalties in Guyana’s elections.
