Key figures of the Alliance for Change (AFC) were soundly rejected in their own communities in Guyana’s 2025 General Election, with results showing the party barely scraping votes at polling stations where its leaders cast their ballots.

At the Lions Club in Providence, where Cathy and Nigel Hughes were registered to vote, the AFC managed just six votes of 70 valid votes, or about 9%. The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) won with 35 votes.

Former AFC leader Khemraj Ramjattan also faced humiliation at his Rama Krishna Primary School polling place, which hosted 12 polling stations. Out of 1,783 valid votes cast, the AFC secured only 38 — just 2% — while the PPP won decisively with 1,129.

David Patterson fared no better at the Lions Club polling place in Bel Air, where three polling stations recorded 383 valid votes. The AFC collected 26 votes, around 7%, compared to 182 for the PPP.
And in Demerara Paradise, where former leader Raphael Trotman was registered to vote, the AFC got only 14 of 695 valid votes across three polling stations, around 2%. The PPP again won comfortably with 335.

Taken together, these four AFC heavyweights mustered just 84 votes out of 2,931 valid ballots in their own neighborhoods — roughly 3%. In every case, the PPP beat them handily.

The results reflect the broader collapse of the AFC’s support base. Nationally, the party secured just 3,611 votes of the 438,345 cast — a mere 0.82% — falling short even of the 1% mark.

Once seen as a third force capable of reshaping Guyana’s political standard, the AFC’s performance in 2025 sees it falling to the lowest point in its 20-year existence.

  1. Ramjattan is an black arse-likker, but was a good guy before.
He even posted that the PPP was “racist” in not welcoming Haitians into Guyana. The Haitians received billions of dollars in aid, yet never progressed. Useless creatures.

Strange that a human will become sub-human in its grab for power.
His villagers voted what they think of this creature.
