Police in Regional Division Two are investigating the discovery of a male body in the Supenaam Creek, Essequibo Coast, yesterday. The deceased has been identified as Abdil Ramjan Khan, a 69-year-old pensioner of Wakenaam Island.

At about 07:10 hours yesterday, the subordinate officer in charge of the Aurora Police Station received a telephone call reporting that a body was floating in the Supenaam waterfront area.

The scene was subsequently visited by a senior rank and detectives. On arrival, the body of a male was seen floating at the Supenaam waterfront in the vicinity of the Farmers’ Wharf.

The body was retrieved from the water and examined by detectives. Blood was observed oozing from the ear; however, no marks of violence were seen on the body.

The body was later identified by Navindra Thomas, a 34-year-old minibus driver of Wakenaam, as that of his father-in-law, Abdil Ramjan Khan.

The body was escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital, where it was seen and examined by Dr Beharry, who pronounced him dead on arrival.

Khan’s body was then taken to the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Thomas was interviewed by the police. He stated that on Sunday, 7 September 2025, at about 11:00 hours, his father-in-law, Abdil Khan, left Wakenaam alone in his wooden boat powered by a 40 HP outboard engine to go to Supenaam to purchase engine parts, but he never returned.

Thomas further told investigators that on the same date, at about 19:40 hours, he travelled to Supenaam in search of his father-in-law. Upon his arrival, he saw the man’s boat moored at the Supenaam waterfront, with his clothes on the ground next to the stelling area leading to where the boat was tied.

As a result, Thomas went to the Aurora Police Station and made a missing person report.

The scene was later canvassed for CCTV cameras, and a camera was identified on a house opposite the spot where the boat was moored. The footage was reviewed and showed Khan falling into the water.

Investigations are ongoing.
