President Dr. Irfaan Ali has warned his new Cabinet that there is no room for ego in his government, declaring that those who see office as a path to power “will be out of a job.” He made these remarks on Saturday evening at State House ahead of the swearing-in of his full Cabinet.

The Head of State reminded his ministers that the people’s expectations are clear: “to live a life of dignity, a life in safety, a life of honour, a life in which prosperity reaches every home, a life in which our elders can retire in dignity, in comfort, in which your communities are clean, you have sanitation services, a life in which you feel alive with high quality and standard of living, world-class education, world-class health services.”

Underscoring his administration’s work ethic, Dr. Ali said, “The journey ahead is going to be accelerated. You’ve seen that we at the Office of the President intend to lead by example.

“Many people have asked whether we have planned our break. The only break is work. And the only reward is more work. We’ve already started this journey. Every second counts. Every minute counts. And we have to make it count in favour of the people. We have to make it count in favour of our country.”

Dr. Ali was also keen to note that every individual taking up office is expected to uphold ministerial, advisory, parliamentary, and technical duties with discipline and accountability.
