Upon assuming the office of Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Minister Deodat Indar and Prime Minister Mark Phillips today led a site visit to the ongoing Gas-to-Energy project at Wales, Region Three to assess its progress.

The construction of the 300MW power plant is 78% complete, while the entire project is 68% complete. On September 22, the contractor (LYNDSAYCA) will commence the concrete pour for the second foundation, and at 7–10 day intervals, the pour will be executed for the third and fourth foundations. The foundation works are necessary to support the power plant’s steam and gas turbines that make up the combined cycle.
Each of the four gas turbines has a capacity of 57MW, and the capacity of the two steam turbines will produce a total of 300MW. The contractor has set a 120-day deadline to complete all foundation works for the turbines.
The Public Utilities and Aviation Minister noted that the completion of the power plant is one of the most important milestones on the agenda for the President Irfaan Ali-led administration, as it will have a profound impact on the nation via a 50% cut in electricity costs.
Minister Indar further stated that the PPP/C government is eager to have the project completed in 2026 so that citizens can reap the benefits of reduced electricity bills.
