The driver who was killed in an accident at Hillfoot, Linden-Soesdyke Highway accident last Sunday, has been identified as 22-year-old, Sherwin James, a resident of Moblissa Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

James was driving a motorcar that tragically collided with a lorry.

One of the occupants of the motorcar, Alex (only name known at this time), also succumbed to injuries he received as a result of the accident.

The remains of both deceased (Sherwin James and Alex) were taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting post mortem examinations.

Additionally, a breathalyser test conducted on the 61-year-old driver of the lorry showed no trace of alcohol.

Guyana Standard reported earlier today that James was the driver of a motorcar, PLL 7365, when it collided with Motor Lorry GAE 5944, at around 02:00hrs.

The lorry was being driven by 61-year-old Sewarran Latchman of Sand Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.

According to him, he was proceeding west along Hill Foot, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, when he observed two white lights heading east in his driving lane, at a fast rate.

He claimed that he applied brake and swerved left to avoid a collision but the motorcar collided with the right side front portion of the lorry.

As a result, James was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other occupants including the now-deceased Alex suffered injured and were taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital.

The condition of the other occupant remains unknown at this time.

Investigations are ongoing.
