Several employees of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) are assisting the police in relation to a report of simple larceny involving approximately $5 million (Guyana currency), property of the elections body.
Guyana Standard understands that a small fraction of the stolen money was recovered by detectives. The money, the police force said, was in the possession of an Assistant Accounts Clerk, who has since been taken into police custody.
The probe is ongoing.
