Freeman Fordyce, a 47-year-old businessman, was granted bail today, following his arrest for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Fordyce initially appeared before the Diamond Magistrate’s Court on 19 September 2025, where Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman refused bail and transferred the matter to Court 3. His lawyer, Bernard DaSilva, subsequently moved to the High Court for a judicial review.
Bail was granted today by Madam Justice Demone Younge in the sum of $125,000 for each of the two charges.
The businessman was arrested on September 16, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation by ranks from Regional Divisions 4A and 4B at Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara.
According to a police report, Fordyce was seated in his vehicle in front of his home when cops requested to search the car for arms, ammunition, and drugs. During the search, officers reportedly recovered a 9mm pistol and a magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition from the glove compartment. Fordyce admitted that he did not hold a license to carry a firearm. He was cautioned, remained silent, and was arrested.
