A 45-year-old Sophia woman was robbed of her motorcycle, cash, and other valuables on Thursday night during an armed attack in Lamaha Springs.

The victim, Maressa Gilbert Mohabir of Section ‘D’ Sophia, was relieved of one black and red Haojue motorcycle bearing registration number CN 5875, valued at $225,000; a handbag containing a Samsung cellphone valued at $30,000; $25,000 in cash; ATM bank cards; identification cards; and a Guyana driver’s licence.

Police said the incident occurred at about 22:10 hrs on West Palm Street, Lamaha Springs, and was carried out by two identifiable males, one of whom was armed with a cutlass.

Investigations revealed that Mohabir was riding east along the street when the two perpetrators rode past her on a motorcycle. They then stopped a short distance away, turned off their motorcycle lights, and doubled back in her direction.

The pillion rider then dismounted, approached Mohabir, and drew a cutlass from his waist, which he placed against her neck. He reportedly relieved her of the handbag before shoving her off her motorcycle and making off with it. His accomplice followed on their motorcycle.

Mohabir later made a report at the North Ruimveldt Police Station.
Police have since launched an investigation but no arrests have yet been made.
