Guyana’s next General and Regional Elections will be held in 2031, according to Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo.

“The elections would be held, the next elections, in 2031,” Jagdeo said during a press conference Thursday at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.

The Constitution of Guyana dictates that the life of a Parliament is five years after its first meeting, and that elections are due three months after the dissolution of Parliament.

President Irfaan Ali has said that he has until November to convene Parliament. Based on the constitutional allowance the deadline for holding of the next General and Regional Elections would fall no later than the first quarter of 2031.
