Police are investigating a fatal incident which occurred on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at about 09:45hrs on Alness Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
The incident involved motor lorry, GAJ 4955, driven by Divindranauth Seeram, a 35-year-old resident of Corentyne, and pedestrian Donna Punch (now deceased), a 65-year-old pensioner of Lot 40 Alness Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
Enquiries disclosed that two pedestrians came out of a street on the northern side of Alness Public Road, and were standing at the side of the road.
The lorry was proceeding west along the southern drive lane when both of its right-side rear wheels became dislodged and collided with one of the pedestrians (Donna Punch) who was standing on the northern corner of the road.
As a result of the collision, the pedestrian fell onto the grass parapet, where she received injuries to her head and body.
She was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and conveyed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body is at Ramoo’s Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The lorry driver is in police custody, assisting with the investigation.
