Police are investigating an alleged Robbery Under Arms committed on a 30-year-old autobody workman of Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara.

He was robbed of a Samsung S9 cellular phone valued at $40,000, along with a haversack valued at $5,000 by two identifiable males, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

The suspects were on a motorcycle (registration number unknown). The alleged armed robbery occurred at 00:05 hrs this morning (Saturday, 11th October 2025) at Annandale, ECD.

Investigations revealed that several people, including the victim, were attending the wake of the late Eagon Williams in Annadale. According to the victim, whilst at the wake, he left the gathering to urinate a short distance away, and whilst doing so, he observed that the two perpetrators were approaching him from an eastern direction.

As a result, he turned and ran in the direction towards the ‘wake house’, but the perpetrators caught up with him, held him at gunpoint, and demanded money. He resisted them, and the suspect with the firearm shot him once in his right thigh, which caused him to fall to the ground. The suspects then relieved him of his haversack, which contained his cell phone and personal documents. The men made good their escape on the motorcycle.

The victim was subsequently picked up by residents attending the wake and taken to the GPHC, where he was admitted as a patient and was due to undergo surgery.
