Police in Regional Division 2 are investigating a fatal incident that occurred yesterday (Wednesday, October 22, 2025) on Elisa public road, Essequibo Coast, that resulted in the death of 34-year-old Yolanda John, of Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast.
The incident occurred at about 19:30 hrs and involved a motorcycle (registration number unknown) driven by 23-year-old Leroy Prince of Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast, the now-deceased woman (Pillion Rider), and a cow.
According to 23-year-old Prince, he picked up the 34-year-old woman (his girlfriend) from work and was proceeding north on the Elisa public road. He related that a cow was on the western side of the road, and he pulled to avoid a collision, but despite his effort, the motorcycle came into contact with the cow, causing him to lose control.
This resulted in 34-year-old Yolanda John falling off the motorcycle and onto the roadway, receiving injuries to her body. She was subsequently picked up and taken to the Lima Regional Hospital, where she died while receiving medical attention.
A breathalyser test was conducted on the motorcyclist and no trace of alcohol was found. The motorcycle was lodged at the Anna Regina Police Station to be examined by the licensing and certifying officer.
The motorcyclist was placed in custody, assisting with the investigation.
A post-mortem examination conducted on the remains of Yolanda John showed she died as a result of multiple injuries consistent with a motor vehicle accident.
The autopsy was conducted by Government Pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh, today, Thursday, October 23, 2025.
