The APNU has issued a statement following an explosion at a Regent Street gas station that has left one child dead and several others injured.

A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) expresses its profound sorrow at the explosion that occurred on the evening of Sunday 26th October 2025, at the Mobil Gas Station on Regent and King Streets, Georgetown. The incident tragically claimed the life of six-year-old Soraya Bourne and left several others injured.
APNU extends its deepest condolences to the Bourne family and to all who have been affected. We also recognise the bravery and professionalism of the first responders: members of the Guyana Police Force, the Guyana Fire Service, the staff of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, and the ordinary citizens who assisted in the immediate aftermath of this horrific event.
APNU condemns without reservation all acts of violence and terror. These attacks have no place in our society. Our thoughts are with the families who are suffering and with every Guyanese whose sense of safety has been shaken.
We call on the Government to:
1. Ensure a transparent, professional investigation supported by all relevant national-security and intelligence agencies, with external technical assistance where necessary.
2. Publish a full incident report detailing the coordination among the Police, Fire Service, Defence Force, and health agencies, and the specific security lapses identified.
3. Provide adequate financial and psychosocial support to victims and their families.
4. Strengthen protection of critical infrastructure such as fuel depots, power substations, and public markets through updated safety audits and drills.
5. Implement immediate screening and documentation of all migrant workers and non-nationals presently in the country, ensuring that every entrant is registered, verified, and law-abiding, while protecting the rights of genuine refugees and asylum seekers.
6. Release public updates on the investigations into the earlier bombings at the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost and the Guyana Power & Light sub-station, including any links to the most recent attack and the actions taken to close those cases.
7. Reconvene Parliament’s Security and Home Affairs oversight mechanisms at the earliest opportunity to guarantee civilian scrutiny of national-security readiness.
At this moment of grief, APNU appeals for calm and unity. We urge every citizen to avoid speculation or prejudice against any group and to allow investigators to conduct their work guided solely by evidence. The safety of our people must transcend partisan politics.
APNU reaffirms its commitment to a secure, cohesive, and resilient Guyana where every child can grow up free from fear.
