Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), Aubrey Norton, says he sees “no problem” in benefiting from the knowledge and expertise of the Alliance for Change’s (AFC) acting Leader, David Patterson, particularly on matters related to Guyana’s oil and gas sector.

He made this comment at a press conference on Friday, days before the first sitting of the 13th Parliament following the 2025 General and Regional Elections.

Norton described Patterson as “knowledgeable” in the area, noting that his insights could prove valuable to the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU).

Patterson previously served as the APNU+AFC Coalition’s point-person on oil and gas issues. APNU was subsequently dethroned as the main Parliamentary Opposition by the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, led by U.S.-sanctioned businessman, Azruddin Mohamed.

The APNU and AFC failed to coalesce for the 2025 General and Regional Elections, ending the partnership.

Patterson’s rise to leadership role follows the sudden resignation of Nigel Hughes as Leader of the AFC. Hughes stepped down with immediate effect after the party’s disappointing performance in the 2025 polls. In response, the AFC executive committee appointed Patterson as interim leader while the party seeks to “reorganise”.
