The Bureau of Statistics will be conducting the National Economic Survey across regions 2, 3, 4 and 6 commencing on November 10, 2025, to gather comprehensive data from businesses across various industries. Some businesses in key sectors and broad geographic areas have been randomly selected for the survey sample.
This survey is being done in accordance with the Bureau’s legal mandate under the Statistics Act, Chapter 19:09 of the laws of Guyana, to collect Economic Data. The Bureau is seeking the full cooperation and support of business owners, as information from this survey will benefit the business community and the country. Further, it is the legal responsibility of all business owners selected as part of the sample to participate in this exercise. Among the areas covered are business performance, outputs and intermediate costs.
Trained Enumerators from the Bureau of Statistics will visit the selected businesses during operating hours. They will be equipped with an official agency badge, a Tablet computer, and an introduction letter confirming their authorisation to conduct the survey.
The Bureau of Statistics is providing two convenient ways to participate: (1) tablet-based interviews, which the enumerator will conduct, or (2) self-enumeration through a secure web link or QR code that the enumerator will share with those businesses that choose this option.
Data collected from this survey will allow the Bureau of Statistics to analyse growth patterns across industries such as retail trade, construction, manufacturing, transport, finance, hospitality, health, and education, among other sectors. This will be instrumental in enhancing the computation of Guyana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Accurate, timely data helps businesses identify new market opportunities, assess industry performance, and align with national trends. Investors and entrepreneurs can make better decisions about expansion, diversification, and innovation, reducing risk and improving services and profitability.
For citizens, the data collected through the National Economic Survey will provide valuable insights into the nation’s business climate. It will inform government policies that affect everyday life, such as job creation, wage levels, infrastructure investment, and public services.
It should be noted that staff of the Bureau of Statistics are bound by the Statistics Act to ensure the confidentiality of all information collected. Severe penalties are in place for breaches of confidentiality, and no information about businesses’ finances will be made public or provided to any other agency for taxation or any other purpose. All data collected and analysed will be provided to the public in an aggregated format, at the regional and industry levels.
The Bureau of Statistics is responsible for collecting, compiling, analysing, and publishing socio-economic and other statistical data. This data is collected from across Government Ministries and agencies, private entities and from the public through surveys.
