The National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) is currently engaged in a series of ongoing works to desilt the Church Street Inlet channel and the Cummings Canal Outfall as part of its broader flood mitigation programme aimed at improving water flow and reducing the risk of flooding in Georgetown.

These works form part of a coordinated effort to restore and enhance the city’s drainage infrastructure, ensuring that channels are cleared of silt, debris, and other obstructions that impede the free flow of water. The intervention at Cowan Street is one of several targeted actions being undertaken by the NDIA as it continues to implement proactive measures to strengthen drainage capacity and protect residents, businesses, and critical infrastructure during periods of persistent rainfall.
