Yesterday, the Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha met with programme heads and other senior officers of the Ministry of Agriculture to review performance and discuss the Ministry’s plan of action for 2026, as the sector builds on the gains achieved over the past year.
During the engagement, Minister Mustapha commended officers for their dedication and hard work throughout 2025, noting that the agriculture sector had accomplished a great deal and had once again emerged as a vibrant and productive pillar of the national economy.
The Minister, however, urged officers to intensify their efforts as the government rolls out additional programmes and initiatives aimed at further modernising and expanding the sector. He stressed that sustained commitment, innovation, and coordination will be critical as Guyana moves to strengthen food security, increase exports, and position itself as a leading food producer within the region.
Minister Mustapha further emphasised that the Ministry’s 2026 plan of action will focus on improving efficiency, scaling up production, strengthening resilience to climate impacts, and deepening private sector and regional partnerships to support long-term growth.
Also present at the meeting were Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, Hon. Vikash Ramkissoon, Permanent Secretary, Ms. Daun Ellis, and Director General, Mr. Dhaneshwar Deonarine, along with other senior technical officers.
