The Guyana Police Force (GPF) says it has recorded an overall reduction in serious crimes across Regional Divisions One to Ten for the period January 1 to December 31, 2025.
Comparative figures for serious crimes across Regional Divisions 1 to 10 show mixed trends between January 1 and December 31, 2024 and 2025. Murders increased from 117 in 2024 to 130 in 2025, representing an 11.1 percent rise. In contrast, robbery declined sharply from 13 cases in 2024 to five in 2025, a decrease of 61.5 percent. Robbery under arms involving firearms also fell significantly, dropping from 289 to 204 cases, while robbery under arms using other instruments decreased from 82 to 58 cases. Robbery with violence declined from 44 to 29 cases, and robbery with aggravation fell from 17 to 12 cases.
Further reductions were recorded in other serious offences. Larceny from person decreased from 38 cases in 2024 to 23 in 2025, while reported rape cases declined from 239 to 209. Burglary showed one of the steepest drops, falling from 77 cases in 2024 to 23 in 2025. Break and enter and larceny also declined, moving from 318 cases to 227 cases. Kidnapping was reduced from one reported case in 2024 to none in 2025. Overall, total serious crimes decreased from 1,235 in 2024 to 920 in 2025, reflecting an overall reduction of 25.5 percent.
In relation to road safety, statistics for the same period show that 124 fatal accidents were recorded in 2025, resulting in 137 road traffic deaths. Additionally, reductions were recorded in other accident categories, including serious, minor, and damage-only accidents, contributing to an overall decline in total road accidents from 2,405 in 2024 to 2,177 in 2025.
The Guyana Police Force said that it remains committed to sustained crime-fighting strategies, community engagement, and proactive policing as it continues to work toward ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
