The Guyana Police Force is investigating an alleged attempted murder which occurred on Tuesday January 27, 2026 about 19:00hrs at Doctor Dam, La Grange, West Bank Demerara.
The incident involved a 34-year-old self-employed woman of the said address.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was at home, seated on her front veranda with family members, when an unidentified masked male, dressed in dark clothing and armed with a handgun, ran into the yard and attacked her, dealing her several blows about her body.
The victim reportedly fled the house and ran into a neighbouring yard, during which she was chased and struck to her back, causing her to fall and sustain injuries to her head and body. The suspect subsequently discharged two rounds in her direction before making good his escape.
The victim was taken to a private medical facility, where she was admitted and is presently receiving medical attention.
A suspected 9mm spent shell was found and lodged. CCTV footage was identified in the vicinity and is to be extracted as part of the investigation.
A 39-year-old Auto Body Technician of La Grange, West Bank Demerara, is presently in police custody as investigations continue.
