Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, M.P., presented the 2026 budgetary allocations for the Ministry of Agriculture and its agencies during Budget Day 2: Consideration of Estimates of Expenditure in the National Assembly.
As part of the parliamentary budgetary process, $106.6 billion was approved for the Ministry of Agriculture. The allocation is aimed at advancing key priorities across the sector, including drainage and irrigation, crop and livestock development, fisheries and aquaculture, agricultural research and extension services, agro-processing, and climate-resilient agriculture.
The 2026 budget provision includes significant capital investments to expand agricultural production, strengthen food security, improve farm-to-market access, enhance flood control and irrigation infrastructure, and support innovation and value-added initiatives to improve incomes and livelihoods across rural and farming communities.
During the consideration of estimates, Minister Mustapha underscored that the approved allocation reflects the Government’s continued commitment to modernising the agriculture sector while ensuring sustainability, resilience, and inclusive growth.
He noted that the investments form part of the broader “Putting People First” agenda, with agriculture remaining a critical pillar of national development and economic diversification.
