President Irfaan Ali said the government today launched an expression of interest for the build-out of the long-awaited Amaila Falls hydropower project.
The President made the announcement in his feature address at the Guyana Energy Conference which opened at the Marriott Hotel.
The 165-megawatt (MW) project has been through a few rounds of calls for bids since the government envisioned it under a pre-2015 People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) administration. It is the largest renewable energy project envisioned for the country, and would be the first major such project to begin Guyana’s transition to clean energy sources.
