Chief Executive Officer of Cybele Energy, Beatrice Mensah-Tayui says the location of the Guyana offshore Block S7 gives an “almost guarantee” of a discovery there.

Mensah-Tayui gave an update on the Ghanaian company’s plan to explore the block during a presentation at the Guyana Energy Conference in Georgetown on Wednesday.

She said the block is situated in shallow waters in the Liza fairway, a geological trend where Exxon’s Liza discovery was made. The terms of the petroleum agreement for the block grants Cybele five years to complete early studies, conduct exploration drilling, and declare commercial interest in a discovery.

The official, who boasts about being the first woman to lead an African offshore exploration company, signed a deal for the block with the Guyanese government in the fourth quarter of 2025. The US$17 million signing bonus Cybele committed to paying is expected to be deposited into Guyana’s Natural Resource Fund this year.
