Police in Regional Division 2 are investigating the death of Aleena Preetam, 14, of Supenaam, Essequibo Coast, which occurred between 19:30hrs on Sunday February 22, 2026 and 05:30hrs on Monday February 23, 2026 at her residence.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that the teen, who resided with her parents and her one-month-old child, was last seen alive on Sunday evening. At about 05:30hrs on Monday, family members attempted to wake her but found her unresponsive.
She was escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was examined; however, no marks of violence were observed.
A post-mortem examination was conducted on Thursday February 26, 2026, between 10:30hrs and 10:45hrs at the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary on Preetam by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh.
Her cause of death was given as heart failure and anaemia.
The body was subsequently handed over to the family for burial.
Investigations are ongoing.
