Police in Regional Division 2 are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Samirah Evans, 2, of Kabakaburi Mission, Upper Pomeroon River.
The child is believed to have drowned on Saturday, March 7, 2026, sometime between 12:30hrs and 17:30hrs at Kabakaburi Mission, Upper Pomeroon River.
Preliminary investigations revealed that about 12:30hrs on the day in question, the child was at home with her mother when she was later discovered missing.
A search was subsequently conducted by relatives and residents of the community.
At about 17:30hrs, the child’s body was discovered floating in the Pomeroon River in the vicinity of Warapana, approximately one mile from the Kabakaburi Mission landing.
The body was retrieved and escorted to the Oscar Joseph Public Hospital. There, the child was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for later.
