Police in Regional Division Three are investigating the murder of 29-year-old Herbert Hartman, a labourer of Tuschen New Scheme, East Bank Essequibo. The incident is believed to have occurred between Sunday, March 8, 2026, at about 20:30 hrs and Monday, March 9, 2026, at about 06:00 hrs at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim and the suspect, a 23-year-old construction worker of the Tuschen Housing Scheme, are known to each other.

Enquiries indicate that the two men were earlier at a worksite in the area where they were allegedly consuming alcohol when an argument reportedly erupted between them. During the dispute, the suspect allegedly threatened the victim before leaving the location.

It is alleged that the suspect later went to the deceased’s residence armed with a cutlass, where a further altercation occurred.

At about 06:00 hrs on Monday, March 9, 2026, Hartman was discovered lying motionless in a pool of blood at his residence with several chop wounds about his body.

The body was escorted to the DeKinderen Regional Hospital, where it was examined and pronounced dead by a doctor on duty. It was subsequently taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Police later contacted the suspect, who was arrested and remains in custody assisting with investigations.

Investigations are ongoing.
