Following several hours of persistent, heavy rainfall, several areas in Georgetown and other coastal regions are currently experiencing flooding.
Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, is currently visiting a number of drainage structures in Georgetown and around the country to assess their functionality.
Senior officials from the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) are accompanying the Minister during these assessments, as the Ministry of Agriculture, through the NDIA, mobilizes to ensure that all necessary systems are in place and that affected areas receive relief as soon as possible.
Minister Mustapha noted that all structures visited are currently operational, with all necessary systems in place, and will operate on a 24-hour basis. (Source: Ministry of Agriculture-Guyana)
