A Better Hope, East Coast Demerara landlord yesterday set fire to his home to force his tenant out.
Enquiries disclosed that 56-year-old Mumtaz Ali, set his room on fire due to a conflict between himself and his tenant.
Further enquiries revealed that the landlord served his female tenant a lawyerโs letter to remove from the premises to which she failed to comply.
Yesterday, at around 19:00hrs, the tenant and her children were selling food when they observed smoke coming from the house.
They claim that they saw the landlord running from the house into the neighbourโs yard.
The fire department was summoned and managed to put out the fire. Investigations are ongoing.
